NOT FOR PROFIT (NPO) CERTIFICATION AWARD

In 2004, The Aziz Jehan Begum Trust for the Blind voluntarily opted to subject itself to a very detailed independent professional scrutiny, meeting the objective criteria in line with international best practices, laying special emphasis on Internal Governance, Financial Management and Program Delivery by the Government of Pakistan’s authorized organization, ‘Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy’ and received the NPO Certification Award with effect from 05 May 2005.

So far this is the only organization for the training and education of the blind to have qualified and awarded Government of Pakistan’s recognized certification for three consecutive year.











To Qualify for Certification, An NGO has to;

 
·     Have a robust and well defined governance structure.
·     Have participatory and democratic decision making.
·     Have institutionalized mechanisms for sustainability of its structures and operations.
·     Involve all stake-holders especially ultimate beneficiaries in planning, implementation and monitoring of its programs.
·     Maintain its accounts in accordance with nationally acceptable accounting standards.
·     Be transparent in its financial management and must publicly disclose its sources of funding, financial outlays for the last three years and expenditure on various administrative and program heads.
·     Have an established monitoring and evaluation system.
·     Be efficient and effective in its program delivery.

For the first time arrangements have been made by the Government of Pakistan to identify credible NPOs (Not-For-Profit organizations) that can be trusted for donations and contributions from corporate and individual philanthropists and is the basis of official recognition and tax benefits from the Central Board of Revenue. After our first certificate dated 30 June 2006, we have qualified for the second certificate which will now be valid up-to 2010.
